Why You Left Your Last Job:   I was in facility rentals for a few years and with the 2010 Olympics coming to Vancouver, the position I held was downsized - the Olympic Organizing Committee was moving into a building I rented out to the film industry (which also had taken a downturn).  Two strikes against the position I held and I was let go.

How You Started Your Business:  I really wanted to switch gears - and careers - and took this golden opportunity to start Scratchpad Secretaries.  It is something I can do from my home office, and working for myself gave me the freedom to choose my hours, which was very important to me as we were starting a family.  There was no capital investment required other than a few dollars for a website and printer, which was also a huge factor in choosing to go the virtual assistant route.

What Does Success Mean To You:  Success can mean different things on different days.  One day it's seeing my son roll over for the first time and being so happy I am at home to witness it instead of being in an office somewhere and having the babysitter call to tell me.  Other days it's seeing my client-base grow to be international.  Today it's being so busy that I may have to outsource some things myself!  Tomorrow it could be the gratitude I feel for being out of the corporate mindset and politics.  Seeing the financial rewards is also a measure of success, sure is, but not the only measure.
